Pioneering a Revolution -
Uranus' Aries Ingress

PDF Version

Natural disasters happen all the time. They are an expression of nature just like rain, hail and snow. But when the natural weather stirs itself to extremes and we are caught in a devastating wave of successive natural disasters, people die and it leaves us both reflective and compassionate. In the modern world, informed by the internet, these disasters seem to occur with vivid regularity. The recent 9.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the world and moved Japan's coast eight feet and shifted the Earth's axis by four inches! And it happened on Mar 11, 2011 the day Uranus entered Aries, the first Sign of the Zodiac.

The first degree of Aries, archetype of the Dare-Devil, Warrior, Leader, Pioneer and Champion, is technically the initial degree that begins the Zodiac each year as the Spring Equinox Sun crosses the ecliptic. Planets that make their Ingress into Aries are embarking on a new journey through the Zodiac, the spectrum of archetypes that define the qualities of life experience and character. Since Uranus has an 84 year cycle (7 years per Sign) it only enters Aries once or twice a century. In this article, we'll explore the last 26 occurrences of the Uranus Ingress into Aries and search for patterns in the events.

In astrology Uranus symbolizes revolution, invention, freedom and the path of individuation. In Aries we would expect new beginnings and trends in society related to this dynamic cardinal outward mode and dynamic fire element, the archetype of courage through action. Uranus is the only planet that orbits the Sun with its north pole tilted toward the Sun, expressing its Promethean spirit of uniqueness and originality. Uranus symbolizes the psychological urge for authenticity and the need for invention. It's process starts with revolution, matures into an expression of freedom, which grows into authentic individuation, expressed as originality, and finally opens the intuition. Uranus (Greek Ouranos) was the Sky Father that mated with Gaia to create the Earth. Aries symbolizes the quest for the Golden Fleece and the individual maturation into a courageous pioneer of what he or she is about. In my first book, "Celestial Renaissance: A Revolution of Astrology," I described the placement of Uranus in Aries as:

A Generation of Freedom Fighters. This generation's purpose is to revolutionize courage through forcing sudden changes. These people come to create freedom and stir up activity in the world. They dare to take charge of humanitarian action and begin new ways of fighting for individuality. As a member of this generation, you can tune into social liberation by expressing unique talents in the Realm of Experience Prometheus occupies. Can you blend Activity with Intuition?

The problem of researching history is that the records grow thin the further back you go, so a true comparison is impossible until modern times. Since Uranus' discovery in 1781, the moment in history when we became aware of its influence, it may be that it has had a more dramatic effect, especially in light of the scientific awareness that the observer affects the experiment. The intensity of both technological progress and disasters has increased dramatically since 1781.

The dates to the right indicate the year that Uranus first entered Aries. In actuality, Uranus enters Aries and then retrogrades back into Pisces before finally entering Aries for good, giving two years of dramatic influence. When considering any date on the table consider the listed year plus the next. For 85 AD we would consider 85-86 AD, for example. In my research for events, I considered events one year on either side of the listed dates. During 2010-2011, Uranus flirted with the cusp of Aries twice before making its final plunge into the fire on March 11, 2011.

The First Millennium

The first millennium of the Common Era actually opened with electrical Uranus bolting into bold Aries during 1 AD, the beginning of our accepted calendar. The Roman Emperor Tiberius was facing heated conflicts with the warlike tribes of Germanica that would eventually spell the end of the glorious empire five cycles later. At the end of the Age of Aries, 1940 BCE - 220 CE (when the Tropical and Sidereal Zodiacs were aligned) the Roman Empire became the final expression of this Mars governed Age of Heroes. The Roman forces would gather on the fields of Mars before marching into battle. In 1 AD, the Roman writer Ovid scribed his work "Metamorphoses" to usher in the new cycle.

By the year 85, a Uranus cycle later, the Roman Emperor Domitian took control, creating a cult of personality and gaining the favor of the army and commoners, but arousing the anger of the Senate. The master astrologer Ptolomy was born around this time, working from Alexandria and authoring "Tetrabiblos", the first collected works of astrology. In the Battle of Mons Graupius (84) the military efficiency of the Romans under Governor Agricola broke the power of the Caledonian tribes, assuring the Empire's control of Britain.

The next cycle began in 169 when Marcus Aurelius became the sole Roman Emperor and faced the Germanic Wars again. This is also when the Moors invaded Spain from Morocco. The Han Dynasty in China had to quell the Dou Wu rebellion.

Then in 252, the next cycle began with yet another Roman Emperor, Trebonianus Gallus. Every cycle so far we see changes in the direction of leadership. This cycle was unique in that Gallus signed a peace treaty that paid the Goths an annual tribute, but they attacked Asia Minor nonetheless and burnt the Temple of Artemis to the ground. One of the ancient Wonders of the World had been destroyed. In addition, when the Persian Sassanids attacked from the east, a priest named Uranius Antonius defended the Empire and proclaimed himself Emperor, minting coins bearing his name and image. So we have artifact coins from this time with the image a rebel upstart Emperor called Uranius.

In 337, the Eastern Roman Empire had been established and this date marked the death of the man responsible for it, Constantine I. Constantine II succeeded his father with his brothers as co-emperors and another dynamic change in the direction of the Roman Empire occurred. At this same time, Shapur II of the Persian Sassanids began his war with the Romans, renewing the age old conflict between the East and West. The Sassanid Zoroastrian Persians and the Byzantine Christian Romans were the two cradles of Western civilization during this time.

The Dark Ages

The next Uranus Ingress into Aries occurred in 420 on the heels of the Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune- Pluto in Taurus conjunction that squared Uranus in Aquarius to dynamically shake up the world in 412. The Dark Ages began as Rome collapsed. Attila the Hun, the Scourge of God, dealt the final death blow to the old establishment at the same time as the Jin Dynasty collapsed in China - a seismic change in world leadership again.

The next Ingress occurred in 503 when the Kingdom of the Franks emerged, uniting France and Germany. The Sassanid philosopher Mazdak espoused socialist ideals that year, declaring private property the root of all evil. This is reflected later in history when Engels and Marx meet in Paris under the 1844 Uranus Ingress.

The next two Uranian Ingresses into Aries occurred in 587 and 671, both in conjunction with the planet Jupiter. This is important to our time because the recent Ingress of 2010-2011 and the last Ingress of 1927-1928 also occurred with conjunctions to Jupiter. The first two Aries Ingress Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions witnessed the emergence of the Islamic revelation and the religious conflicts with the West became concise. In an effort to stamp out heresy, the Popes sought political power to shape the future of religion. For example, the filioque clause in the Catholic Church's Nicene Creed was used to condemn the Arian's in Spain. In China, a large meteorite impacted the earth killing ten people and heralding the beginning of the Sui Dynasty. In 671, the Lombard King Grimoald died, ending an era. He thought of Saint Michael as the protector of the Lombards. Chalderic II rose to power over the Franks. Wamba became King of the Visigoths. More changes in leadership!

By the next Ingress in 755, another round of monarchial changes occurred as well as the invasion of Spain by Abd al-Rahman I, known as the Immigrant, setting up a realm that lasted for three centuries centered in Cordoba. In addition, the first major earthquake occurred under a Uranian Ingress into Aries striking Palestine of Syria. In 754, Vatican City was founded, the impregnable fortress of the Catholic Church blending Age of Aries conquest theme with Piscean Age spirituality.

The next Ingress in 839 was preceded by the appearance of Halley's Comet in 837, making its closest approach ever (5 million KM). The change in leadership theme occurred again within the Holy Roman Empire after the death of Louis the Pious. Also, the city of Dublin was founded by the Norse-Vikings in Ireland.

In 923, the Ingress exploded with the fall of the Liang Dynasty to the later Tang Dynasty, another dynamic shift in China's history. The Icelandic volcano Kalta erupted in 920, three years before the Ingress. The Ghana Empire in Africa was experiencing its Golden Age.

The Second Millennium -
Uranian Themes Emerging

With the 1007 Ingress, Mount Vesuvius erupted and the largest supernova ever recorded occurred. The third celestial omen to occur near the Ingress (Meteorite, Comet, Supernova), showed that the realm of Ouranos was speaking! Gunpowder was invented in Song Dynasty China by Taoist alchemists ironically seeking immortality. A major volcanic eruption of Mount Merapi in Indonesia covered all of Java in ashes. In addition to Chinese inventiveness (ie. the compass and paper money) the Arabic scientific achievements reached their Zenith around this time too. While the Tale of Genji (the world's first novel) was being penned in the Far East, Beowulf was being told in the West. An age of written storytelling was being ushered in. Exploding volcanoes, a supernova, gunpowder, Arabic Science, and imaginative tales marked the beginning of the Second Millennium! A new theme of pioneering inventions had emerged.

In 1090, the Uranian Ingress took a new and volatile turn as Uranus crossed into Aries perfectly conjoined with Pluto, dark lord of the underworld and symbol of the urge for transformation and the need for regeneration. Leading up to this intense conjunction at the Aries Point, a huge earthquake destroyed the region of Georgia followed by another that laid waste to Palmyra in 1089. Another earthquake rocked Britain as the Earth began to reflect a new rumbling theme of powerful change and natural disaster that would only expand with each cycle. The well-documented modern Uranian theme of sudden trauma was starting to take root. The Islamic Abbasid dynasty in Spain collapsed completely, reflecting the usual theme of leadership changes. Uranus would begin meeting Pluto in Aries every third Ingress, but never as close as their fated meeting in 1090 at the Aries Point.

On a positive cultural note, the Song Dynasty began an outpouring of creative inventions that would forever alter the world. For example, Qin Guan wrote the Can Shu, which describes a silk-reeling machine with the oldest-known mechanical belt drive, presaging the textile production of the Industrial Revolution by centuries. The oldest university was established at Bologna and the troubadours began playing in Provence. Combined with the influence of the 1007 conjunction that paved the way for gunpowder, the compass, and paper money, the first century of the new Millennium opened with a creative bang!

In 1174, the Ingress coincided with the construction of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa as well as the destruction by fire of the commune of Padua, Italy. While Saladin was capturing cities like Damascus and Aden of Arabia, the mass production of paper money was happening in Song Dynasty China. This time marked the beginning of the Scholastic movement to translate ancient Greek and Arabic texts that would explode as the Renaissance that harkened back to the Hellenistic period.

As the Jupiter-Saturn cultural establishment conjunctions were transitioning from the productivity of the Earth Sign series to the intellectual revitalization of the Air Signs, the world was preparing for great social, political, and economic transformations. The concept of the town was coming into fashion, centers of merchant trade where craft guilds and military orders like the Teutonic Knights could flourish. This parallels our time with the Jupiter-Saturn 20-year Star of Bethlehem conjunction shifting into the Air Signs again in 1980 and the advent of the first computers, the internet, and the Space Age of information. In essence, our culture is heading into another Renaissance similar to prior Air Sign conjunctions of Jupiter-Saturn that brought us the Byzantines, the Hellenistic Greeks, the Helladic Greeks, and the Sumerian Renaissance. Even Renaissances (rebirths) run on cycles!

The 1258 Ingress saw the birth of Osman I, founder of the great Ottoman Empire that would last for six centuries. As the Mongol Hordes raged across Asia (Korea surrendered in 1258), the largest volcanic eruption of the Holocene Epoch occurred rocking Central and South America from Mexico to Ecuador and causing secondary calamities like pestilence, severe winters, and famines throughout Europe. As if echoing the destructive power of nature, the Battle of Baghdad happened that year where the fierce Mongols burned the Imperial City to the ground, the center of Islamic culture and learning. Over one million people died in this cataclysmic clash of civilizations. In northern Europe, the foundations of the Hanseatic Trading League were being formed quietly under the great wave of suffering that plagued the West. William Wallace (Braveheart) challenged King Edward Longshanks in 1257, losing the rebellion and his life, but inspiring Robert the Bruce to rise and free the people of Scotland from English rule.

In 1342, Uranus conjoined with Pluto again adding intensity, a series that repeated in the years 1090, 1342, 1593, and 1844 before dissipating. A great flood occurred that year in Kerela, India that altered the course of the river Periyar! A tsunami caused by an earthquake hit Amalfi, Italy causing the decline of this once great maritime city that once rivaled Pisa and Genoa before the rise of Venice. The Zealots began the Byzantine Civil War and the Chinese poet Zhang Xian wrote the "Iron Cannon Affair," illustrating the destructive use of gunpowder and cannons. On a positive cultural note, Ibn Battuta, considered by scholars as the first tourist and greatest traveler of the ancient world (rivaling even Marco Polo), was sent on a diplomatic mission to China. Petrarch, an Italian scholar, poet and Father of Humanism in the Renaissance, was crowned Poet Laureate in Rome, the first since antiquity. In addition, the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire was founded in Southern India, and flourished through trade, importing inventions like water irrigation systems. If the Muslims would have vanquished them, we might not have yoga today!

The 1425 Ingress was relatively quiet in terms of natural disasters on the heels of the Black Death and the dissolution of the Mongol Empire the century before. The world had witnessed enough death and destruction and the Italian Renaissance was reaching its height, centered in Florence. Beijing became the most populated city in the world and shifted its currency from copper and paper back to silver due to counterfeiting practices. Prince Henry the Navigator began exploring the coast of Africa which eventually birthed the Age of Exploration as the Jupiter-Saturn cycle shifted from the Air Signs into the Water Signs. In 1429, with Uranus still in Aries, Joan of Arc helped the French achieve victory at the Siege of Orleans, becoming a national heroine.

The 1509 Uranus Ingress returned in full force with the marriage of King Henry VIII to Catherine of Aragon, the beginning of the Tudor Dynasty in Britain. King Henry rebelled against the power of the mighty church supporting the Protestant movement in order to gain the divorce he sought. The Age of Discovery was underway and settlers were migrating to the New World en masse seeking religious, political, and economic freedom. The Tudors eventually produced Queen Elizabeth and the British Empire, but not of Catherine's lineage. "The Divine Proportion" was published (Illustrated by Da Vinci) as Michelangelo was painting the Sistine Chapel. Desiderius Erasmus, the Dutch Renaissance Humanist, published his famous "In Praise of Folly," one of the most notable works of the Renaissance and a catalyst of the Protestant Reformation. The Ingress was not without calamity as the Portuguese monarch Joao II died and an earthquake in Istanbul destroyed 109 mosques, killing over 10,000 people.

A cycle later, the 1593 Ingress reunited Uranus with powerful Pluto, but their exact conjunction didn't occur until 1598, five years after the exact Ingress. As the Confucian Shrine Munmyo was destroyed by fire during the Ingress, the 7-year Korean-Japanese War broke out. While the British Empire under Elizabeth flourished, that particular year recorded the most severe Atlantic hurricane season of all pre-1600's seasons. In addition, the Long War between the Ottomans and the Habsburgs in Hungary began. On a side note, the city of Dublin returned to focus, having been founded under a Uranian Ingress, with the founding of the famous Trinity College. During the actual conjunction of Uranus and Pluto in Aries in May of 1598, Tycho Brahe published his star catalogue listing the positions of 1,004 stars. Brahe's excellent star records would eventually empower Kepler to discover the three Laws of Planetary Motion.

In 1677, the Uranian Ingress occurred during the rise of Rationalism that lead to the Enlightenment under a series of Fire Sign Jupiter-Saturn Conjunctions. The Dutch philosopher Spinoza died that year even as Leibniz, co-founder of calculus, solved the Tangent Problem. While Descartes was working out the Cartesian Coordinates, Antonie von Leeuwenhoek viewed sperm and bacteria under a microscope, becoming the Father of Microbiology. The German composer Bach was born that same year as if the universe was giving birth to the seeds of new sound, new music of the spheres. The year was not without conflict however, as the American Indians attacked Boston and the Russo-Turkish war broke out.

1760 brought the next Uranus Aries Ingress in with portents of Uranus' discovery (1781) during the last Fire Sign Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction before the Industrial Revolution began in earnest with the rise of railroads and the Age of Steam. 120 independent observers witnessed the Transit of Venus across the face of the Sun, the same technique that would be used in our time (2010-2011) to discover alien earth-like worlds revolving around distant stars. Boston revisited disaster as the Great Fire destroyed 349 buildings. Uranus spends 7 years in each Sign and this Ingress erupted with the bloody French-Indian War. There was an earthquake in London in 1761. King George II died giving way to the reign of King George III, the same king that the American Colonies would revolt against to initiate the War of Independence (1775). At the same time, Britain completed its conquest of the Mughal Empire in India as the foundations of the Industrial Revolution were being laid. In fact, the year 1759 was called the British Year of Wonders as the English won every battle they engaged in across the globe becoming the world's first oceanic superpower that lead to English becoming the common trade tongue of the world. In 1761, the five year old Mozart played his first concert. Chinese exports skyrocketed, with Western countries paying an estimated 3 million ounces of silver for Chinese goods, a trend that would only escalate in modern times.

The Industrial Revolution

During the next Ingress of 1844, the Industrial Revolution was well underway. The Earth Sign wave of Jupiter-Saturn Conjunctions that resembled the last wave centuries before when the Song Dynasty became the center of productivity and China's population doubled. Pluto was in Aries again but the conjunction to Uranus didn't happen until 1852 along with the planet Saturn, a powerful triple conjunction of the same three planets that would form T-squares in later centuries to symbolize economic droughts, including the Great Depression. The Great Flood of 1844 wrought tremendous destruction along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and a great fire destroyed Pittsburgh. A decade later, Pittsburgh would re-emerge as a center of steel production worked by immigrants, literally rising form the ashes of over 1000 destroyed buildings. The Irish Potato Famine added to the season of disasters in 1845 with millions killed as Dublin made Uranus Ingress headlines again, this time with its first disaster.

In London the YMCA was created and the modern gray metal world of railroads, mass production, and sports clubs was quickly emerging. The first electronic transmission of a telegram using the telegraph occurred in America using Morse Code, the beginning of the concept of communication at a distance. This pioneering technological revolution would irrevocably change the world. The British Parliament passed the Joint Stock Companies Act, which allowed companies to incorporate without a royal charter, paving the way for limited liability in 1855.

In America, James Polk was elected President that year expressing monumental influence on the future under the spirit of Manifest Destiny. Polk oversaw the opening of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Smithsonian Institute, the groundbreaking for the Washington Monument, and the issuance of the first postage stamps in the United States. The first wagon train set out for the Oregon Trail in 1843. Texas was admitted to the Union in 1845 followed by the start of the Mexican-American War in 1846 that lead to California's entrance into the Union in 1850. Congress overrode a Presidential veto for the first time in American history that year. Ulysses S. Grant graduated West Point in 1845 during the time when the impending Civil War was brewing.

In religion and science, two developments occurred that year. The Bahai Faith was established by the Persian Prophet Bab and in medicine, anesthesia was first used in childbirth. Publishing experienced a revolution starting with the publication of the Economist (1844) followed by Scientific American (1845). The birth of the German philosopher Nietzsche heralded the "death of God" and, together with Kierkegaard, originated the teachings that would comprise existentialism, the idea of the subjective individual being responsible for giving his or her own life meaning and for living that life with passion and sincerity, in spite of the many existential obstacles and distractions like despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom.

That same year, people were already questioning the ideals of raging industry and ruthless capitalism. Engels and Marx met in Paris for the first time (harkening back to the Persian Philosopher Mazdak), essentially the beginning of Communism. Charles Dickens published "A Christmas Carol" pointing a collective finger at the greed of the inner Ebenezer Scrooge. And Thoreau retreated to Walden to begin his two year experiment in simple living. Edgar Allen Poe published Tell-Tale Heart (1844) and the Raven (1845) popularizing Gothic Horror fiction for the emerging modern paved society.

Before the birth pangs of the modern industrial world had subsided, people were already questioning the aims of the society they witnessed emerging. By the Aries Great Conjunction of Uranus, Saturn and Pluto in 1852 this angst intensified. That year, solar flares were discovered, the Theory of Evolution was being formulated, and Neanderthal fossils were discovered (their genome decoded under the recent Uranus Ingress of 2010). Steel production was revolutionized by the Bessemer process making Carnegie Steel explode in profits, centered in reborn Pittsburgh. Railroads began to supplant canals as the primary means of transporting goods as sewing machines, telegraphs, and elevators were coming into use along with the first usage of the terms "boyfriend" and "girlfriend." Petroleum was fractionated through the distillation process for the first time as well, a sign of the automobile culture to come.

The Atomic Age

The last Uranus Aries Ingress occurred in 1927-1928 and also aligned with Jupiter. This one promises to give us greater clarity on what we are experiencing under the 2010-2011 Ingress. Its comparison to what is happening now may point the way to developments that will likely occur during the 2094-95 Ingress ahead. Not only do we have a better record of events from the 1927 Ingress, we are also experiencing the Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction. The only former Jupiter-Uranus Conjunctions occurred back in 587 and 671 with the religious and cultural emergence of Islam. While Europe was experiencing the end of the Byzantines, Islam was being born and the Tang Dynasty in China under the famed Empress Wu Zetian was rising to power. This was another Golden Age in Chinese civilization that brought the rise of Buddhism and the flourishing of art, invention and culture. Considered the greatest era of Chinese poetry, woodblock printing was invented and the first encyclopedias were compiled. During our time we've witnessed the resurgence of Buddhism and Islam alongside Christianity as highly influential world religions and the advent of Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia.

The 1927-28 Uranus Ingress coincided with the height of the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age, an era marked by increased prosperity in the West as well as the emergence of Communism in the aftermath of the first World War. Hitler had already published "Mein Kampf" from prison and the world was a powder keg waiting to be ignited by the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. This Ingress witnessed Uranus's entrance into Aries before Jupiter's, while we saw Jupiter cross the Aries point before Uranus. Last time the markets crashed a year after the last Uranus Ingress. It may happen again in 2012! But we already experienced a crash in September 2008 about a year and half before our first Uranus Ingress.

The 1927-28 Ingress started with the usual bout of disasters. An earthquake in Palestine killed 300. Pennsylvania recorded 28 inches of snow. A dam was destroyed in California killing 600. A hurricane struck the Atlantic coast of Canada wreaking havoc. An earthquake in Yugoslavia killed 100 followed by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Japan followed by a banking crisis, uncannily similar to our own time. As Uranus first entered Aries, America suffered the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, marking the greatest natural disaster in American history up to that point. Later that year, floods in Vermont were pronounced the greatest disaster in the state's history. Natural disasters seemed to be getting worse with each Uranus Ingress. The river Thames also flooded London as well and a tidal wave refilled the moat of London Tower which had been drained a cycle before in 1843.

Then the big 8.6 earthquake hit Xining, China killing 200,000 people a month later. In September 1927, another underwater quake struck Japan. In Britain, 1000 people per week were dying of the influenza epidemic. In 1928, an earthquakes destroyed 21,000 buildings in Bulgaria followed by another in Corinth that destroyed 200,000 buildings! A drought in China lead to severe famines. Between massive floods, earthquakes, epidemics and famines this could have easily been described as the worst series of natural disasters of any Uranus Ingress in the last two Millennia, and possibly history. The crash of the Stock Market a year later merely added insult to injury.

While the world was literally shaking and drowning, the political landscape was experiencing its own seismic shifts, both regionally and internationally. While the "Fuhrer" was working the Germans into a fury espousing anti-semitism, anti-capitalism and anti-communism, the rest of the world was supporting them to vast extremes. Joseph Stalin gained undisputed control over the Soviet Union in November 1927 during a total eclipse over England. Britain had just severed diplomatic ties with Russia over suspected espionage and a strike in Shanghai over the presence of British troops preceded the rise to power of Chiang Kai-Shek resulting in Communist China. The Communist People's Liberation Army was formed in August of 1927.

In the United States, several powerful agencies were formed including the Bureau of Prohibition to enforce the laws against the manufacture, sale and transport of alcoholic beverages, which directly benefitted the transition from an alcohol-based fuel economy to the gasoline economy that is still driving wars in the Middle East. After 19 years of success producing Model-T Fords, the Ford Motor Company rolled out their new Model-A automobile and sales skyrocketed. In July 1927, the FDIA (which later became the FDA) was founded to regulate food, drugs and insecticides in the United States, an organization that still controls consumable markets. As a result, we have become a drug-addicted society (both legal and illegal versions) in the waning centuries of the Pisces Age of illusions.

Revolutions were also occurring in science and technology starting with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle of quantum theory. The roots of nuclear physics, quantum field theory and particle physics were planted. Einstein himself nominated Heisenberg for a Nobel Prize, which he eventually was awarded in 1933 at the end of Uranus's passage through Aries. No matter the dates and the players this Ingress revolutionized the world with far-reaching technological, scientific, societal and spiritual breakthroughs under the grand umbrella of mankind decoding the mystery of matter itself and the resulting birth of atomic energy.

Bell Labs made the first long-distance transmission of television on April 7, 1927 that lead to the birth of television. By September, the CBS network was founded. That same year, the BBC was founded and granted a royal charter in Britain. After the first trans-Atlantic telephone call was made between New York City and London, Charles Lindbergh followed it up with his epic flight across the Atlantic. He had his Sagittarius Explorer Moon conjunct Uranus and an Aquarian Sun and Mars! Amelia Earhart attempted the Pacific in 1928 and failed. By the end of 1928, the first aerial circumnavigation had occurred.

In the arts, Andy Warhol was born as a symbol of what was to come. In the east, the China Academy of Art was founded. In the west, the Academy Awards began. In England, the Oxford-English Dictionary was first published. The German silent film "Metropolis" was released the same month as the 7.6 earthquake hit Japan, depicting the dark future of a sprawling mega-city where society was divided between planner-managers living in luxurious skyscrapers and worker-slaves living and toiling underground. This eerily accurate symbolic picture of future society as the world's population exceeded 2 Billion was astonishingly prophetic. Uncannily, the film was restored and shown publicly in Germany on Feb 12, 2010 under it's Uranian Return.

Uranus Aries Ingress - 2010-2011

Finally we come to the Uranus Ingress into Aries of 2010-2011. In November of 2009, the film "2012" was released concerning the end of the Mayan Calendar, graphically portraying world-wide upheaval. After what we've witnessed thus far, the film paints an interesting parable. Building up to the first Ingress on May 27, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti with a confirmed death toll of over 230,000, one of the deadliest on record. On Feb 27th an 8.8 earthquake in Chile triggered tsunamis in the Pacific. Uranus retrograded back into Pisces on Aug 13th and finally made its passage into Aries for good on March 11, 2011. In April 2010, the Deepwater Horizon explosion and Gulf of Mexico oil spill occurred, the largest in history, adding yet another man-made disaster to the already potent list of natural disasters.

On Apr 3, 2010 Apple released the new I-pad, a cross between a Netbook and an I-pod and sales went through the roof triggering other companies to develop their own versions. E-book sales on the Kindle and the I-pad exploded, threatening to change publishing forever as newspapers folded and bookstore giants like Borders had to throw in the towel and close their doors. In May of 2010, scientists mapped the Neanderthal genome (the same Neanderthal discovered under a previous Uranus Ingress) suggesting interbreeding with ancient Homo sapiens, followed by an announcement that they had created a functional synthetic genome. The first species to be created by a computer was crafted by scientists. In July, the first 24-hour flight by a solar-powered airplane called the Solar Impulse occurred.

Later that same month, on July 25th, Wikileaks, an online publisher of anonymous, covert, and classified material, leaked to the public 90,000 internal reports about the US-led involvement in Afghanistan from 2004-2010. At the end of the month, monsoon rains in Pakistan caused widespread flooding killing 1600 and displacing over a million people. Right before Uranus retrograded back into Pisces, the World Health Organization announced that the H1N1 influenza pandemic had ended. A 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand occurred in September, 2010. Miraculously, there were no fatalities!

In between Ingress conjunctions, the International Space Station surpassed the record for the longest human occupation in space, since Nov 2, 2000. Finance ministers of the G-20 Summit in South Korea reformed the International Monetary Fund and shifted 6% of the voting shares to developing nations and countries with emerging markets. The actual Summit occurred on Nov 11-12th. That same month an earthquake and consequent tsunami off the coast of Sumatra killed over 400 people and many went missing. Repeated eruptions of Mount Merapi in central Java killed 400 and forced thousands to evacuate, harkening back to the same eruption that covered Java in ash back in 1007 a thousand years ago. On Dec 21, 2010 the first lunar eclipse to occur on the day of the northern Winter Solstice since 1638 happened.

A volcanic eruption in Iceland blackened Europe while a 6.9 magnitude earthquake rocked China followed by a 6.3 magnitude aftershock in Christchurch, New Zealand that did kill people. In February of 2011, the people of Egypt revolted aided by the Internet to overthrow a totalitarian government regime of Mubarak, inspired by the Tunisian government the month before. After two successful regime changes, the people of Libya followed suite only to be slaughtered by Gaddafi's African Mercenaries and prompting international intervention. Saudi Arabia began channeling massive funds to the public to avoid a similar social revolution.

And finally, on March 11, 2011 the 9.0 magnitude earthquake (tied for 4th largest in recorded history) wreaked havoc on Sendai, Japan and triggered nuclear power plant possible meltdown emergencies exactly one cycle after atomic power was discovered. The quake caused 9,000 deaths with over 16,000 missing. Tsunami warnings were released in 50 countries. At the same time, volcanoes erupted in Kamchatka, Russia. On a positive note, Nasa announced that hundreds of earth-like worlds around distant suns had been discovered by the Kepler Space Telescope, 54 occupying the habitable zone. California is scheduled to complete the world's largest solar power plant in 2011.

The Future of Pioneering Revolutions

Clearly the latest Uranus Ingress rivaled all previous occurrences in terms of natural disasters. In addition to astonishing new technology and discoveries, we may have averted a second Great Depression. It may be that to the extent that we discover inner peace and creative expression the disasters are avoided. The words "disaster" and "catastrophe" mean to be without the stars. Where do we go from here? What will the future witness during the next Uranus Ingress scheduled for 2094-95? Based on the previous three conjunctions (2010, 1927, and 1844) of which we have the most accurate records, we can make some educated guesses about the next cycle.

Since we are entering the Air Sign series of the Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction in 2020 with their alignment in Aquarius, we can expect an era similar to the Renaissance or the Byzantine era. The last Air Sign series that occurred before the shift of the Ages marked the birth of Socrates and the beginning of the Hellenistic era. We are already experiencing the translation of ancient texts from all three previous Renaissances and with the advent of global distribution via the internet, we can expect an intellectual revitalization like no other time in history over the next 172 years. Sweeping economic transformations have already occurred through online shopping. Social change has occurred as well through sites like Facebook and online forums. Political revolutions have been accelerated with sites like YouTube, Wikileaks and Twitter exposing government corruption and previously unreported activity.

During the last interface period between the Earth Sign Jupiter-Saturn Conjunctions and the Air Sign Conjunctions, the Mongol Empire sprouted as Ghengis Khan united the scattered tribes. While the Silk Road brought the inventions of China to the West, it also carried diseases that precipitated the Black Plague. Maybe a new version of the Mongol Empire will unite the Middle East much like the European Union and the United States. During this interface period between 1980 and 2020 we invented the internet, a seminal advance in human evolution that rivals the meritocracy of the Mongols. At some point we are going to have to resolve our religious differences if we hope to avoid even deadlier wars and possible extinction. Maybe the new visions of the cosmos inspired by space telescopes will give birth to a new cosmic universal religion that works for everyone while allowing people to maintain their traditional cultural beliefs?

In the previous Renaissance, the windmill was invented (the European horizontal-axle windmill is dated to 1185) and now we are seeing a resurgence of windmill technology. With oil peaking and global warming and pollution rising, nations will be forced to convert to clean sources of energy like wind and solar power. Will scientists of the space age harness nuclear power in outer space? With the discovery of distant earth-like planets, the human race will dream and imagine new ways to bridge these impossible distances. We'll probably learn to communicate with alien worlds long before we arrive at them, unless of course advanced civilizations make first contact. But we may see space colonies in our own solar system by the next Uranus Ingress. If we continue on our path of destruction and begin militarizing space, we could witness our first devastating space disaster in 2094. Or perhaps a colony on another planet faces a disaster?

As television gives way to streaming internet audio and video maybe we'll begin seeing a holographic version of the internet that can be manipulated in thin air or through brainwaves. We are already witnessing the democratization of the music, video and publishing industries. Maybe we'll learn to record our thoughts and dreams? With advances in medical technology, we'll probably keep living longer, but if we are bored and miserable, what will be the point of extending life to Genesis lifespans? Can our world support a growing population that lives longer? With the advent of the internet and astrology programs and apps, it is easier than ever for someone with no previous knowledge of astrology to learn the basics and apply it to character analysis and qualitative time analysis. Other fields will experience equal democratization. The optimist in me hopes that we can get it together as a world to form an authentic global village by realizing our inherent interconnectivity and interdependence.
